The Pittsburgh Pirates have finally decided on a hitting coach, landing on former Toronto Blue Jays assistant hitting coach Matt Hague, as first reported by TSN’s Scott Mitchell. Hague replaces Andy Haines,

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – Scott Mitchell of TSN is reporting that the Pittsburgh Pirates are hiring Matt Hague as the team’s new hitting coach. Hague served as assistant hitting coach with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2024.

During the spring of 2012, Matt Hague earned the nickname “the hit collector” after a torrid Spring Training that earned him a spot on the Major League team. Twelve years later, the Pirates are turning to him again to try to get the offense going.

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates hired long-time pitching coach Brent Strom as assistant pitching coach. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette beat reporter Noah Hiles was the first to break the news.

Another Toronto Blue Jays staff member has left the team. On Wednesday morning, TSN’s Scott Mitchell reported that Matt Hague has departed the Blue Jays to become the Pittsburgh Pirates’ new hitting coach.
